Secret Us Aircraft - Mysterious jets spotted earlier this year in Amarillo, Texas, and Wichita, Kan., are actually Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit stealth bombers on a training mission, military sources told the USNI on Monday.
"The Amarillo jets were B-2 training aircraft," a US Air Force official with direct knowledge of the incident told the USNI on Monday.

The jets were on their way to the Utah Test and Training Range to practice bombing after a short delay at Melrose Air Force Range in New Mexico.

Whitman Air Force Base, Mo. Flying out, the B-2s probably would have navigated through Amarillo to reach the Melrose Range.
The official added, “The Kansas picture is probably the number of training flights that were flown around Kansas and Missouri.
Whitman, the home station of the B-2 fleet, is just outside of Kansas City near the Kansas-Missouri border.
Earlier reports suggesting that the images showed a hitherto unknown type of triangular plane were an error due to the poor resolution of the images.

The triangular planform seen in these photos is the result of an optical illusion that has obscured the trailing edge of the B-2s design.
Air Force spokeswoman Jennifer Cassidy told USNI on April 21 that the plane, much less the Air Force.
Last September, the USAF's top acquisition official, Will Roper, told Defense News: "We've already built and flown a real flight demonstrator, and we've broken records doing it. We're going to go and build the next generation. Ready to build airplanes in a way that has never been done before.
The new aircraft, which is intended to replace the F-22, is part of the program Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD).

Not much is known about the jet, but the Air Force has just dropped one big clue: concept art for a fighter jet to be built under the NGAD program. This photo appears in a recently published biennial report for USAF acquisitions. Read the full report here.
The report says of the program: "Next Generation Air Dominance is a family of capabilities that enable air superiority in the most challenging operational environments by implementing the development pillars of digital engineering, agile software development and open architectures." By conducting short technology development. cycles, the program matures technology and reduces risk through prototyping and operational experiments.
"Designed to complement the F-35, F-22, joint and partner forces in the air superiority role, Next Generation Air Dominance is an advanced aircraft program for developing counter-air platforms with multi-domain awareness. For agile flexible communication, and an integrated family of capabilities.
"The program uses a non-traditional acquisition approach to avoid the traditional monolithic program schedules and high life cycle survival costs. This strategy, called the Digital Century Series Approach, is key to the industry. Makes a realistic business case for adopting commercial best practices for design activities - before a part is even manufactured.

The image also hints at the possibility of re-engineering the aircraft with weapons and propulsion upgrades. The jet is seen with three versions of air-to-air missiles, landing gear and engines labeled V1, V2 and V3.
The USAF has developed a stealth fighter using digital engineering technology designed to dramatically reduce the time it takes to develop a new aircraft.
